On Sale! How Americans love these words. They will buy almost anything if the tag says "50% off," "reduced for clearance," or "Buy now and save!" Almost any store has some item on sale on any given day.

But if you are trying to attract customers to your once-a-year, big blow-out, super sale (or your clearance, or even your yard sale), you'll need more than tags. It's time for sale banners.

You will need to decide whether to put your sale banners inside, outside, or both. Much depends on your location and what you can afford. The main point is visibility from the street or from the entrance. You want an open site where it will be impossible to miss.

So what should they look like? That's up to you. "Sale"? "Huge Sale"? "Entire Store on Sale"? Stars? Explosion? Border or color block? Plain? Shadowed or angled text? The viewer should be able to take it in with one quick look. View some online templates and watch out for the banners other businesses are using. Look at real stores to see whether people are responding or not. In other words, find out which sale banners are actually selling the product.
