Safety Banners

"Please wash hands before returning to work." "Bend your knees before you lift." "Prevent this [picture of someone falling]" Every workplace has signs about how to keep the work environment safe. The trouble is that many workers have learned to ignore them. No matter how much they drill in equipment safety, they are as likely as not to forget the training or put it aside in favor of easy short-cuts.

The best solution to this problem is to hire smart, vigilant supervisors who model correct procedures and nip dangerous behavior in the bud. But even the most diligent managers can't be everywhere at once. To a good safety campaign, you might add safety banners. Unlike small warning signs, they are visible to everyone and (almost) impossible to ignore.

Where you put them and what they say depends on what your business is and what kind of accidents can take place there. A picture of a fork lift captioned "Safety First;" Goal posts and "Our goal: An accident-free workplace;" a house and "Get home safely today" all represent real concerns for employees. Written large and placed strategically, safety banners can make people stop and think - the first steps toward safety.
