Vinyl Lettering

You've seen them in cars' back windows: "Ask me about Penelope Cosmetics." "I lost 60 pounds without being hungry. To find out how call..." You've seen them on office doors: "Sales Department," "Constantine Malone, Director of Acquisitions," "Ladies." You ask yourself, "Who painted all that stuff on there?"

Answer - nobody. At one time if you wanted lettering on anything you needed a professional sign painter to be sure that everything was symmetrical and there weren't any slips ("Driving Shcool.") Not any more. Now you can make your own using vinyl lettering.

It works like this. You find a vinyl sign company on the Internet (there are many). Check out products and pricing to be sure you're getting the best deal. Then go into their design tools. You type in the text you want, fancy it up with fonts, colors, shadows, and outlines. (Don't get carried away. People have to be able read the lettering.) Submit your text and click on whatever the "Buy" button is. ("Add to Cart" is the most common one.) Read over the pricing regulations, guarantees (or lack thereof), shipping times, etc. Know what you're getting and when before you start typing in your credit card number.

Your product will come with instructions on how to apply the letters to the surface. It will probably involve pressing the letters on and removing the backing - nothing very difficult. Follow the directions and there you have it - professional-looking lettering without the professionals. And you did it all by yourself!
